| This course is suitable
for students who wish to investigate the delights of creating colour
and pattern on fabric and extend their design skills. Students will
be guided through a range of design methods including a variety
of techniques and media for mark making, colouring pages, pattern
making, 3d form and ways of creating texture. Methods of applying
colour to fabric will be explored including dyeing techniques, printing,
painting, batik, shibori and tie dye. Removal of colour will also
be investigated. Students will create a portfolio of samples and
will complete two dyeing and patterning projects to reflect the
variety of skills developed during the year.
Assessment is verbal throughout the year
with feedback on the individual's progress. There is no formal examination.
Students will be awarded a City and Guilds Certificate at level
2. At the end of the year students will have gained confidence in
design skills and have discovered techniques to use colour and dye
creatively. The completed projects will be displayed at the annual
College Exhibition at the beginning of July 2009.
