| This course is suitable
for students who wish to investigate the expressive nature of hand
embroidery and extend their design skills. Students will be guided
through a range of design methods including a variety of techniques
and media for mark making, colouring pages, pattern making, 3d form
and ways of creating texture. Embroidery techniques will include
creating texture and line with stitch, applique skills, simple free
machine embroidery, bonding and layering using a variety of traditional
and unusual fabrics and threads. Students will create a portfolio
of samples and will complete two stitched projects to reflect the
variety of skills developed during the year.
Assessment is verbal throughout the year
with feedback on the individual's progress. There is no formal examination.
Students will be awarded a City and Guilds Certificate at level
2. At the end of the year students will have gained confidence in
design skills and have discovered techniques to use stitch creatively.
The completed projects will be displayed at the annual College Exhibition
at the beginning of July 2009.
